Work commenced early one Sunday morning with the application of a careful balance of chemicals and fresh water solution that we applied in controlled volumes. Working in small sections to avoid overexposure of the solution to the wooden flooring we methodically machine cleaned each section and quickly extracted the resultant slurry from the surface and grain of the timber.
We have developed and perfected our technique over many years and technical knowhow and experience is essential when undertaking this type of work.
The oak flooring was so heavily soiled that on this particular job we doubled up on procedure and reworked each area, ensuring the best achievable results for extraction of the imbedded soiling.
To ensure that no chemical residue is left upon the unprotected wood we carefully neutralised the flooring with a damp mopping process that was repeated as required.
Getting a once heavily soiled wood floor clean again without the upheaval and mess of sanding is a great achievement, but it wasn’t a completed job.
Mechanical driers were placed strategically around the works area to encourage an enhanced drying process.
Our once heavily soiled oak was clean, dry and looking somewhat naked.
The final aspect to the restoration was to apply a coat of oil. Sara opted for matt finish oil and we used Osmo clear matt
The application of wood floor oil on a previously oiled floor is best undertaken with a specialist brush.
Working in small sections we applied the oil and spread it out whilst working it in to the grain of the wood. It’s important not to over apply the product but equally it cannot be under applied.
The flooring can absorb the oil at different ratios so we are always vigilant and focused on this important part of the works.
